In the 1960s, the company continued to expand rapidly. Dagny, Godtfred Kirk Christiansens cousin, joined the company in 1960 as a model maker. In the 1990s and 1980s, the company continued to grow, diversify, and modernize. This included the creation of an R&D department that has helped keep the LEGO system at the top of its game in terms of technological innovation. It also saw the introduction of themed sets that allowed users to build specific models without having to figure out what to do on their own. This was the beginning of more intricate building and allowed children to get a more hands on experience with the legos.
